COMMUNITY INVITE
COMMUNITY INVITE
JUNIOR THESIS - 2021
Open spaces are limited in New York. Those that are available are overflowing with individuals. Through the pandemic my room in Brooklyn overlooked a bustling park. Looking out my window, I grew familiar with its regulars and rhythm. It was an incredibly positive aspect of an otherwise overwhelming time. COMMUNITY INVITE takes inspiration from these vibrant open city spaces, that serve an essential role in the community.
Athletic textiles were used throughout the collection, with each piece designed to be worn in motion. The goal was to merge delicate details and refined silhouettes with the bold energy of vibrant sportswear.
The textiles and patterns were all hand made. The shapes were outlined using painters tape on yardage. Then drawn with fabric ink or spray painted. This technique was inspired by art found in public play spaces.
Versatility was a key focus in this collection. Most pieces are fully reversible, and each item was designed to mix and match easily—allowing for a wide range of looks from just a few garments.
